It is staged as though we all sat for this painting, but all is not as it appears. My father (Costa, back right) was in his youth here. This was the day he left Greece to emigrate to Australia; the migrant, with his tongue tied and a hole in his pocket. The shadow on his lapel was in fact cast by my beloved grandmother, saying goodbye.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAdoni Astrinakis (seated centre), my grandfather, passed away when Costa was just 11, and this representation of him was from a time when he still had his health.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eI stand back left, at my present age, hand placed gently on my grandfather’s shoulder.
